Photographer Maarten Wouters has investigated the association between fastenings and the female form. For example, in his photo of a woman in pregnancy, a zipper comes to symbolise new openings and new beginnings.

In his work the zipper becomes more than just a product; it becomes an essential component of the creative/design process.

Maarten's series recently won a "best of members" award in the "lifestyle and fashion" category at the annual Sony PANL Awards (Photography Association of the Netherlands)
